DTF Printing Cost in South Africa 2026: Real Price Breakdown
DTF Printing Cost in South Africa 2026: Real Price Breakdown
DTF (Direct-to-Film) printing has the lowest setup cost of any full-colour print method in South Africa — no screens to burn, no minimums, no setup fees. But "cheap" depends on what you're printing and how many.
This guide breaks down real 2026 prices for DTF in SA, including hidden costs other print shops don't mention, and shows where DTF wins (and where it loses) against vinyl, screen and sublimation.
DTF gang sheet pricing (transfers only)
A gang sheet is a single sheet of DTF film with as many of your designs as you can fit. Our pricing scales by size:
| Sheet size | Price | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| 60 × 50 cm (half-metre) | R125 | 4-6 t-shirt prints |
| 60 × 100 cm (one metre) | R250 | 8-12 prints — most cost-effective |
| 60 × 200 cm (two metres) | R495 | Wholesale runs, 20+ prints |
| 60 × 300 cm (three metres) | R720 | Resellers / bulk pricing |
See live pricing — these update if our film supplier moves prices.
Hidden cost note
Most SA DTF printers quote a "per cm²" rate that sounds cheap on a calculator but doesn't include:
- Film waste between designs
- Minimum order surcharge
- Setup fee for first-time customers
Our gang-sheet pricing is all-in — what you see is what you pay.
Printed t-shirt pricing (we print AND press)
If you want us to apply the transfer to a garment and ship the finished product, the all-in price is:
| Garment | Blank | Front print | Back print | Total (both prints) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Unisex T-shirt | R120 | +R80 | +R50 | from R250 |
| Hoodie | R280 | +R80 | +R50 | from R410 |
| Cap | R120 | +R50 | — | from R170 |
| Mug | R60 | +R60 | +R30 | from R150 |
| Tote bag | R90 | +R80 | +R80 | from R250 |
That's everything: blank garment, print, application, packaging. No artwork fee, no sample fee, no minimum quantity.
DTF vs other print methods (per single t-shirt)
| Method | Single t-shirt cost | Where it wins | Where it loses |
|---|---|---|---|
| DTF | R250 | One-offs, full-colour, no setup | Tiny print areas where vinyl is cheaper |
| Screen printing | R45-80 (only ≥50 units) | Bulk runs ≥100 units | Setup fee R350-800 per colour |
| Heat transfer vinyl (HTV) | R150-180 | 1-3 colour bold designs | Fades/cracks faster, slow to weed |
| Sublimation | R200-240 | Polyester only, all-over prints | Doesn't work on cotton or dark fabrics |
| Embroidery | R180-280 | Logos, premium feel | No photo prints, high digitisation fee |
Rule of thumb: if your design has more than 2 colours OR you're ordering fewer than 30 units, DTF is cheapest. If it's a solid 1-colour logo on 100+ units, screen printing wins on per-unit cost (but adds a R500+ setup).
